How much does candy really cost?

Our most common comment to candy buffets are: I think we are going to do it ourselves.  how much can candy cost anyway?  Every single time a bride or mother has decided to DIY their candy buffet, I have always been told later at the reception they are so sorry they didn't hire us to do the candy buffet.  They soon found out that the cost of the candy alone often matches what we were going to charge them for everything, then add jars to buy, jar tags to make, table signs to buy and make, specialty color matching linens to buy, favor boxes to buy and assemble ........all adding hundreds of dollars beyond the candy cost and the proverbial..."what do I do with all these glass jars afterwards!!??".  Below is an average candy buffet layout and candy cost for about 100 guests.  Those costs are for just the candy alone and for one jar full of candy.  That does not include refill candy (which is about 1 1/2 times the cost listed), jars themselves at $10-$30 each, jar labels, favor boxes and guest table signs, linens, risers and other embellishments & attendant.
